Dia beacon artists12/14/2023 ![]() ![]() Instead, artists associated with Mono-ha explored the properties of how different materials impact their environment. The group rejected traditional representational art making, which they viewed as obsolete in an increasingly industrialized and technologically advanced world. Mono-ha (School of Things) emerged in Tokyo as a loosely associated group of young artists in the late 1960s. Lee’s groundbreaking work has expanded, and continues to expand, the possibilities for Minimal and Postminimal sculpture, so this addition to our galleries in Beacon is an exciting moment in Dia’s history.” Seen alongside work from Lee’s American and European peers, this exhibition will reveal the interconnected nature of these practices, which are aligned intellectually and historically and yet emerged distinctly from one another. “As we deepen Dia’s commitment to this period of art history, we have continued to expand our view to tell a more comprehensive narrative-casting light on artists working in parallel movements internationally. “The Mono-ha movement remains as formally and conceptually relevant now as it was at its conception in the 1960s,” said Jessica Morgan, Dia’s Nathalie de Gunzburg Director. Opening on May 5, 2019, the exhibition will be on view for two years, encouraging long-term public and scholarly engagement with Lee’s work. ![]() The exhibition features five large-scale works, including three recently acquired installations Relatum (formerly System, 1969), Relatum (formerly Language, 1971), and Relatum (1974). At Dia:Beacon in Beacon, New York, Lee’s work will be placed within the context of his peers who developed Minimal, Postminimal, and Land art practices contemporaneously, such as Michael Heizer, Donald Judd, Robert Smithson, and Michelle Stuart, tracing the formal, material, and conceptual relationships between these artists in Dia’s galleries for the first time. Developed in close association with the artist, the exhibition reveals Lee’s desire to present the world “as-it-is,” through the relationships between natural and man-made materials and encounters between objects, viewers, and space. Beacon, NY – Janu– This spring, Dia Art Foundation mounts a major presentation of early sculpture by Lee Ufan, a pioneer of the Mono-ha movement that first emerged in Japan in the late 1960s. ![]()

![]() ![]() (Though Norman must be keeping a low profile if he exists in the MCU, as Willem Dafoe's version of him says there's no Oscorp in this universe.) There's always a chance the fan theory about Osborn being the new owner could pan out in future Spider-Man sequels. And don't forget, we still don't know who bought Avengers Tower from Tony back in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It's unclear how many of those characters are available to Marvel Studios and what's permitted under the current terms of the agreement between Marvel and Sony, but we have to imagine the MCU will eventually get its own versions of characters like Norman Osborn and Otto Octavius. We may see more of that classic Spidey supporting cast finally be introduced, including Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn. But by choosing anonymity, Peter has basically abandoned that destiny in favor of going it alone.įuture Spider-Man movies in the MCU may start to draw more heavily from the classic Amazing Spider-Man stories of the '70s and '80s, a time when Peter was juggling his superhero adventures, his college career and his chaotic romantic life. This version has instead been portrayed as the heir apparent to Tony Stark, with plenty of high-tech tools and the support of powerful allies in the Avengers. He's never really been the struggling, blue-collar hero who hides his double life from Aunt May and pays the bills with photos of Spider-Man. Previously, Holland's Spider-Man has always stood out for being different from the classical Spidey. The MCU seems to be veering in a more comic book-inspired direction here. Whether you view this giant mind-wipe as a happy or depressing ending to the current Spider-Man trilogy, it's clear No Way Home is setting up a new status quo for Holland's Peter Parker going forward. ![]() The Avengers will remember fighting alongside Spidey in Infinity War and Endgame, but they no longer remember who was underneath the mask. If the entire world has forgotten Peter Parker's existence, what does that mean for his connections to the Avengers (or whatever shell of the team even exists post-Endgame)? Based on what we know of the effects of Strange's spell, the world still remembers Spider-Man's past exploits. The fact that the spell didn't wipe out this one trace of Peter's old life may be a sign May would have been spared from forgetting her nephew. Had May lived and been blasted by the spell, she'd surely be wondering why a teenager is squatting in her apartment. There's no definitive answer to this question, but it is worth noting that Peter has a box of belongings he brings with him to his new apartment. ![]() One interesting conundrum is whether Aunt May would have been affected by the spell had she not been Green Goblin-ed earlier in the movie. The question that will no doubt be explored in future Spider-Man movies is what Peter does with this "gift." Does he devote himself fully to becoming Spider-Man? Does he try to rebuild his private life, even having lost Aunt May and becoming a stranger to Ned and MJ? Is this where other iconic supporting characters like Harry Osborn and Gwen Stacy will come into play? Is there still a place for Ned, MJ, Flash Thompson and Peter's other lost friends? We'll find out in Spider-Man 4. He's now entirely alone in the world, which is a pretty depressing way to end a superhero movie, if we're being frank. Peter even reneges on his promise to reintroduce himself to Ned and MJ, deciding his friends are better off no longer being caught up in Spider-Man's drama. (Image Credit: Marvel)īut in the MCU it seems Peter Parker has basically become a nonentity. Peter had to go to extreme lengths to undo this mistake in the comics. But the key difference is that, in the comics, no one was made to forget Peter's existence, just that he foolishly outed himself as a superhero at an internationally televised press conference. In that case, Doctor Strange, Mister Fantastic and Iron Man collaborated on a hybrid magical spell/technological machine that made everyone in the world forget who's under the mask. This worldwide mind-wipe is reminiscent of how Marvel Comics restored Spidey's secret identity in the aftermath of 2006's Civil War comic. That includes his two closest friends, Ned and MJ. The world remembers Spider-Man, but no one seems to have any memory of Peter Parker. Having successfully dealt with the invading multiverse villains and bid farewell to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men, Spidey successfully enlists Doctor Strange's help in making the world forget his secret identity. No Way Home ends on a pretty bleak note for an MCU movie. No Way Home Ending Explained: How Does Doctor Strange's Spell Work? ![]()

When is hollow knight silksong coming out12/14/2023 ![]() ![]() When you die, you'll drop a bundle of silk and have to destroy it when you return to replenish your supply. Hornet uses silk instead of Souls to heal and use abilities.Hornet has a lot more movement abilities like dashing and sprinting, and she can heal faster than The Knight. You play as Hornet instead of The Knight from Hollow Knight.Silksong revamps Hollow Knight's formula with a suite of new mechanics and changes: You'll face over 150 different types of enemies and many bosses as you explore Metroidvania-style across a large map. Like Hollow Knight, Silksong is a side-scrolling action game, with some easy Dark Souls comparisons in punishing bosses, encounters, and death mechanics. ![]() (Image credit: Team Cherry) Hollow Knight: Silksong gameplay changes What's different about Hollow Knight: Silksong's gameplay? It covers everything from the intro to the first boss, and you can get a good look at some of the new abilities that Hornet has. If you want to see full-on gameplay, you can check out the Nintendo video that features 20 minutes of Hollow Knight: Silksong. They'll all be scattered in the world and in the new towns you can visit to resupply and rest as you explore Pharloom. There are also a slew of new characters to meet, all with their own little vocal traits that have become somewhat iconic for Hollow Knight NPCs. One boss battle looks like it takes place on a bed of flowers with the sun shining down, which could be a bit of a nod to the final fight in Sekiro and Bloodborne. As you'd expect, there are new enemies and bosses to fight. There's even what looks like a grappling hook tool.Īt the edges of the screen you can see pathways leading to other areas and ledges climbing further up into the kingdom. It's a fresh take on the familiar, with Hornet dashing toward enemies and hack them apart. It opens on Hornet and immediately bursts into action. The debut trailer for Hollow Knight: Silksong still sells it best. Check out Hollow Knight: Silksong's debut trailer ![]()

Swinsian troubleshooting12/14/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Almost all my apps have the dark theme set, and switching back to Swinsian is a pretty intense contrast as I listen mainly in a room in the evening with low light. One of the features I am missing is a dark theme. If I edit the tags correctly, if I leave the album artist tag blank, then it appears as one. I have tried many music player apps but find Swinsian best working for me. Generally yes, there are some problems with Bongiovi DPS in High Sierra. I found that swinsian doesn’t always handle compilation albums very well, even tho swinsian tags them as compilations, when they appear in navidrome, the compilation album is in single tracks by artist, and through this sub found meta and mp3tag. Sound Control’s developer is trying to deal with this problem in the way Bongiovi DPS works (hopefully the Bongiovi DPS developer will change it so that this is handled properly), and is going to have a fix out soon for this errant behavior, yet I fear that there are other things going on here as well. Apparently one of the problems is that Bongiovi DPS reports to the OS that it has volume controls, even though it’s ignoring them. However swinsian-scrobbler build file is not available. swinsian-scrobbler has no bugs, it has no vulnerabilities and it has low support. I’ve also found that Staticz’s Sound Control has problems with Bongiovi DPS as well. swinsian-scrobbler is a Python library typically used in Web Services, REST, Lastfm applications. Then use the 'Import iTunes Library' command in the File menu in Swinsian and select the 'iTunes Library.xml' file in your iTunes folder. Make sure that 'Share iTunes Library XML with other applications' is turned on in the Advanced tab of the iTunes preferences. Bongiovi DPS then grabs audio again and things sound nice once again. If you are running an older version of macOS that comes with iTunes. Not sure what is triggering the issue exactly, but I find that frequently when certain audio plays from an application (like my email application, Canary) that it will stop the audio and then I have to completely quit Bongiovi DPS, then manually switch to Line Out and then start Bongiovi DPS back up. ![]()

Where does ia writer save files12/14/2023 ![]() ![]() When you move a file to iCloud from the Mac, it moves the file to the iCloud hidden directory, which I think is somewhere in the library directory. Worse, there’s an implied lock-in to using iCloud that seems to miss the point of using text files in the first place. There is no such thing as a folder in iCloud land, which will eventually become an organizational problem. It’s not all sweetness and light, especially if you are a really heavy creator of text files. The iaWriter iCloud sync is noticeably less annoying. This may seem esoteric, but since I tend to have several blog posts on progress in open windows on my laptop, I do wind up regularly using the iPad to edit an open file. I’m not sure I’ve seen an iOS editor that polls Dropbox for changes, though one of the auto-sync ones (Elements, WriteRoom) might You then need to close the Mac file and reopen it. In particular, if a Lion-aware app has Dropbox change the file behind its back, the original Mac file continues to be displayed with a filename indicating that it is a deleted version. I haven’t quite gotten that level of integration from Dropbox. You can put the iPad and Mac next to each other and go back and forth between the two with only a very slight pause while they sync up. ![]() The changes just appear in the other app. True, except that the iCloud sync behaves much better if a file is simultaneously open in both apps. When you make a change to an iCloud file (on the Mac side, an explicit save, on the iPad side an automatic local save), it is automatically sent to iCloud and pushed to the other site. On iaWriter Mac, you get a command in the file menu for iCloud, which has a sublisting of all the files iaWriter is managing in iCloud, along with commands to move the current file to or from iCloud. Where the iCloud thing gets really cool is if you are running iaWriter on both iPad and Mac. (As a side note, iaWriter has improved its Dropbox sync from “show-stoppingly bad” to “works with a couple of annoyances”, the main annoyance being that it doesn’t remember your place in the Dropbox file hierarchy.) iCloud saves automatically, but Dropbox lets you use subfolders. If you are just using the iPad version then there is not much difference between iCloud and Dropbox. In iaWriter, iCloud shows up as a storage location, on par with internal iPad and Dropbox storage. iaWriter is the first writing program I use to move to the iCloud future (though there are some games and other programs that also sync via iCloud already).Īt a technical level, the integration is fantastic. The thing that’s changed my editor use in the last couple of months is iaWriter Mac and iOS adding iCloud support, even more deeply integrated than Apple’s own applications. If I don’t write about iOS editors every few months, then it’s harder for me to justify continuing to mess around with them… ![]()

Beholder dragon12/14/2023 ![]() ![]() The beholder is one of the most popular of all Dungeons & Dragons creatures. It is one of eleven creatures in the Monster Manual (3.5) (2003) omitted from the SRD as Wizards of the Coast product identity, along with the alternate gauth beholder. The beholder is one of the earliest D&D creatures for which Wizards of the Coast holds copyright. Terry Kuntz had been a player in D&D creator Gary Gygax's campaign for two months when he invented the creature, which Gygax made minor changes to before including it in Supplement I: Greyhawk (1975). The beholder was invented by Terry Kuntz, brother of Rob Kuntz, in 1974. Pages 26-30 describe the beholder along with the undead death tyrant and lesser spectator. Numerous variants appeared in sourcebooks and Dungeon and Dragon magazines, including the level 5 gauth, level 29 ultimate tyrant, and level 30 voidsphere beholder.Ī beholder appears on the cover of the Monster Manual (5e) (2014). The beholder appeared in the Monster Manual (4e) (2008), p.32-33 with the Beholder Eye Tyrant and Beholder Eye of Flame, with full-page artwork depicting two beholders. Additional beholder lore appeared in Dragon Magazine #296's Worshipers of the Forbidden and Dragon #313's Eye Wares: Potent Powers of the Beholders. The beholder appears in the Monster Manual (3.0) (2000) and Monster Manual (3.5) (2003), the covers of which are decorated with a single central eye and decorated as if bound in beholder hide.īy far the most detailed sourcebook on beholders is Lords of Madness (2005), which dedicates an entire twenty-page chapter to the creature. The creature was further detailed in Dragon #76 (Aug 1983)'s Ecology of the Beholder. The beholder first appeared in Supplement I: Greyhawk (1975), p.37-38), and also appears on the cover of that book. Protruding off of the beholders body are many eye stalks, which flail in every direction. For example, no one should be using the Fly spell to stay a hundred feet above the beholder.Beholders are a large floating sphere with a large eye in the center of its face, and a large toothy mouth below it. The big thing to watch out for here is making certain no character puts themselves in a situation where the deactivation of their magic will lead to devastating results. As a result, the beholder will have a hard time hurting anyone inside of its antimagic cone. However, the good news is that it also includes the beholder's own eye rays. This includes magical class abilities, spells, and even magic items. Basically, no magic aside from magic caused by an artifact or a deity works inside this space. This is a 150 foot cone extending from the beholders central eye that is subject to the effects of an eighth level Antimagic Field spell. While all of the previous tips mentioned are key to giving you an edge against beholders, these alien aberrations still have a silver bullet in the form of their antimagic cone. ![]()
